The Niskayuna School District Library Media Department has adopted the mission statement from Information Power: Building Partnerships for Learning. This mission statement focuses on information literacy and authentic student learning.

The mission of the library media program is to ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information. This mission is accomplished:
    • by providing intellectual and physical access to materials in all formats
    • by providing instruction to foster competence and stimulate interest in reading, viewing, and using information and ideas
    • by working with other educators to design learning strategies to meet the needs of individual students.

Goals of the Niskayuna School Library Media Program

The goals of the Niskayuna School District Library Media curriculum are to ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information. These goals are accomplished by:
    • helping students acquire an interest in and enjoyment of reading
    • acquiring and maintaining a balanced collection of media center resources which meets the needs of the users
    • teaching the students the necessary skills to be efficient and effective information users
    • supporting the Niskayuna curriculum and the teachers' classroom programs by providing necessary materials and appropriate guidance and instruction to students.
