Student Work Experience Program (SWEP)
Our Pre-SWEP (in school buildings) and Community
SWEP program (out of the buildings) are offered
to high school students to aid in the transition
to the world of work.
Pre-SWEP students intern at various jobs
throughout the Niskayuna School Community in
order to develop necessary employability skills.
Placements include the library, print shop,
office services, and cafeteria.
In the Community SWEP program, students
participate in 10-week rotations at businesses
and agencies in the local Schenectady area. In
addition to actual on the job/internship
experience, students receive a weekly classroom
component where they are instructed in the ‘soft
skills’ necessary to ensure success at any job
site. Credit is offered for one year of
successful participation in the program.
Job coaching is an integral part of both of
these programs as contracted through the
Schenectady ARC, and district transportation is
provided to community internship placements.
