Hillside
Elementary School officially unveils new playground
Some
350-plus students who attend Hillside Elementary
School gathered outside to watch as NYS Assembly
Minority Leader Jim Tedisco, Schenectady County
Legislators Susan Savage, Jim Buhrmaster and
Niskayuna Community Foundation (NCF) representative Vince Valenza helped
playground committee Jim Kokernak cut the ribbon
on Friday, Oct. 24 to officially open the
school’s new playground.
Approximately 70 volunteers including parents,
faculty and staff, school board and community
members joined together to build the new
playground during the last weekend in September.
Since that time, Hillside students have enjoyed
sliding, swinging, climbing and jumping on the
new equipment at recess and after school.
Hillside’s Parent-Teacher Organization sponsored
a variety of fundraising events to raise money
for the project, and received generous support
from NYS Assembly Minority Leader Jim Tedisco,
NYS Senator Hugh Farley and the Schenectady
County Legislature, which helped make the new
playground a reality for the school’s children
and families. The Hillside community also thanks
the local businesses that provided food and
other support to volunteers during the
playground build.
